Coronation Street Characters We'd Like To See More in 2025

As we near the end of the year, and we’ve taken a look at the characters who appeared the most in 2024, we’re considering characters we’d like to see more of in the year to come…

Jenny Connor

Unsurprisingly, given this opinion piece, we’re keen to see more of Rovers landlady (though that is technically Carla’s role, these days…) Jenny Connor.

In 2023, she graced the top of the appearances list, but she’s scarcely been seen this year. With plenty of connections on the street (Daisy, Carla, Rita and Kevin, to name but a few), and a job role that allows herself to interact with pretty much everyone, we’re hoping to see Jenny get a new storyline to sink her teeth into in the new year!

Asha Alahan

There are plenty of strings to Asha’s bow — as the daughter of Dev and Sunita, she’s a legacy character, and since she started to train as a paramedic, it seems likely that, much like Craig was the only copper around for awhile, she’ll be on scene whenever an ambulance is required for a resident. In a place like Weatherfield, that's likely to be a common occurrence!

Tanisha Gorey is one of the great young talents of the street, and she played a blinder in the skin lightening storyline back in 2019. It would be great to see her step into a storyline of her own once again.

Debbie Webster

With the sad news of Debbie’s upcoming dementia storyline, fans are understandably devastated by the loss of such an iconic character. While it looks like this storyline will play out throughout 2025, with Sue Devaney’s exit expected in 2026, we’re hopeful that means plenty of Debbie on our screens in 2025!

It’s likely to be an emotional one, but hopefully a storyline that allows viewers to see a lot more of Debbie before she sadly leaves our screens for good.

Rita Tanner

While the lack of Rita in recent years is perhaps because the brilliant Barbara Knox has reached her 90s, and needs to step back a bit, her presence on our screens is still very missed!

Across 2024, Rita amassed a tiny 18 appearances on screen, with her last being back in October. We’re hoping for more in 2025!

Mary Taylor

If there’s one thing Corrie are renowned for, it’s those iconic comedic characters — and Mary has always fit the bill! With her funny one liners, and her intense love of Ben Shepherd, she always has something out of pocket to say in any given situation.

With only 4 appearances across the last three months of the year, we’ve not seen as much of this icon as we would have liked. Here’s hoping for more in the year ahead!

Glenda Shuttleworth

Last, but certainly not least, we have Glenda. Many fans have often said she feels like a proper classic Corrie character, with her larger than life personality and eccentric ways.

This year, we got to see the iconic Jodie Prenger flex her drama muscles, as well as her usual comedic talent, during her feud with brother, George Shuttleworth, and during the subsequent robbery of the Rovers. Unfortunately, her PTSD was incredibly short lived, but it would be great to see Glenda tackle some storylines of her own next year!

With Kate Brooks now at the helm of the soap, as we head into the 65th year of Corrie in our screens, it’s likely to be an exciting one, with heaps of exciting storylines in store — hopefully with a few underutilised characters taking centre stage from time to time!
