Back in May, Corrie revealed that solicitor Joel Deering was behind the disappearance of vulnerable teenager Lauren Bolton. Over the past few weeks, however, he has been the subject of his very own whodunnit, with his dead body turning up in the river a couple of weeks after he appeared to have taken his own life on the night of the 27th September. What had, at first, looked like a faked suicide suddenly turned into a murder investigation.
Since his body was discovered, Coronation Street has been treating us to a series of flashbacks as to what really happened the night he was killed, with the full line-up of suspects revealing themselves one by one. Ex-fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey, bent copper DC Kit Green and even renowned Corrie whodunnit suspect Carla Connor all made the cut.
Max arrested for Joel killing
In Wednesday’s (13th November) episode, Max Turner confessed to choosing to confront Joel about what he put Lauren through on the night of the murder, having stolen DS Lisa Swain’s CS spray when she was at the hospital visiting Lauren and baby Frankie earlier that day. In a flashback shown near the end of the episode, Joel overpowered Max and managed to get him in a chokehold. In the next flashback we saw, a few minutes later, Joel’s lifeless body was pushed by an unrecognisable figure into the river. The episode ended with a distraught Max claiming that it was just self defence and that he shouldn’t be charged with murder.

Whilst it looks set in stone that Max was the killer, many keen-eyed viewers have pointed out the holes in his story. Either way, Corrie have confirmed that the mystery of what exactly happened the night of the 27th September, and who exactly dealt the fatal blow to the slimy solicitor, will be revealed to the viewers at last in a series of flashbacks on Friday’s (15th November) episode.
Coronation Street Joel whodunnit reveal time change
In a controversial move, ITV began releasing episodes of both Coronation Street and Emmerdale at 7am on ITVX the day they air last month, but this special flashback episode that is the culmination of a month's-long storyline, and bound to kick off several more, will not be released early. Instead, we can all experience this undoubtedly jaw-dropping conclusion together at the usual airing time of 8pm.
Not only this, but This Morning’s Sharon Marshall will host Coronation Street Live – Killer on the Cobbles directly after the episode at 9pm on ITVX, where she will be joined by Corrie cast members to share what their reactions were to the big reveal.
With such importance placed on this episode and the revelations it’ll bring, the killer’s real identity is bound to get everyone talking.
