Coronation Street Spoilers: Carla and Lisa commit to each other

Updated: Nov 26

After months of Corrie building up the romantic tension between Carla Connor and Lisa Swain, fans were delighted when the pair gave into temptation on Friday’s (22nd November) episode and slept together for the first time.

Heartbreak quickly followed though, with Lisa calling time on the relationship to spare the feelings of daughter Betsy, who is still grieving the other mum she lost three years ago.

Carla is to be hospitalised in upcoming scenes this week after a interrupting a break-in at the factory and getting attacked, with Lisa by her bedside willing her to recover, and things have never looked bleaker for the two women.

A merry Christmas for Swarla

However, according to the Mirror, Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks has confirmed that the couple, known to fans as Swarla, are in it for the long haul. The pair will go official around Christmas, when they'll finally “stop circling each other” and declare their feelings.

The other residents of the eponymous street will find out about their relationship in the coming weeks, but Brooks has confirmed that this is not a storyline about struggling with sexuality for Carla, despite Lisa being the first woman she’s ever been with.

The factory owner is “very confident in her sexuality”, and even though she initially has worries about people gossiping, her fears are quelled when she realises that everyone is fine with who she’s found herself falling for.

In fact, Lisa will be the one who struggles more in the relationship, still grieving the loss of her wife and not letting Carla see her vulnerability.

There's lots to come next year

Fans' own fears of a drawn-out will they/won’t they have also been put to rest, with the producer verifying that the Corrie team want to keep the relationship “secure” and “grounded”, but that doesn’t mean they’ll disappear once they’re together.

2025 is set to throw the pair “a lot of curveballs” that will get in the way of their relationship, but “ultimately they emerge from this strong and united”.

The future is looking up

Alison King and Vicky Myers have been praised for the believability of the blossoming relationship between their characters, beginning over a year since their first scene together, and the relationship quickly became a fan favourite.

Carla has had a slew of failed relationships since arriving on the cobbles eighteen years ago, but it looks like she could finally be settling down with Lisa. Fans of Swarla can breathe easily knowing the future of this relationship is a bright one.
