Coronation Street Spoilers: Christmas Farewell For a Legend

Earlier this year, Coronation Street fans were devastated to learn that the legendary Helen Worth would be quitting the cobbles, after fifty years of playing Gail Platt.

Devastated fans have been hoping Gail would have a happy ending after such a long run on the soap, though her exit has already met some behind the scenes difficulties.

While actor Sean Wilson was originally set to reprise his role as Martin Platt for the exit storyline, Sky News reported in August that he 'stepped down from filming for personal reasons'. No further explanation was ever given, though announcement posts on social Coronation Street's social media were swiftly taken down.

Since then, Eileen's ex-flame Jesse (played by Cold Feet's John Thompson) has stepped into the storyline, with Gail adding another future husband to her long list.

With Gail set to exit on Christmas Day, it's looking like the Platt family are going to be at the centre of the festivities, especially with the nuptials planned for the big day itself. Will the wedding go ahead? Or will Gail be leaving the street as a single woman?

As reported by Digital Spy, producer Kate Brooks has described her exit as being 'stepped in nostalgia', referring to the episode as 'old-school Corrie but just with a modern twist'.

While exact details of this exit are still being kept under wraps, it seems fans will be in for a massive treat on Christmas Day, with our beloved Gail being given the send off she deserves.

It sounds as if she won't be going out without some more family drama, however, as Brooks went on to say: 'in the run-up to Christmas she has found out that some of her nearest and dearest have absolutely betrayed her' — oh dear!

With so much drama already surrounding the Platts, with Max's involvement in Joel Deering's murder, Clayton's hospitalisation, Bethany's stoma, and David getting his hands on Damon's stolen dosh...who knows what Gail might uncover before she leaves the street?! We're just hoping her exit will be a relatively happy one!
