Since Carla Connor and Lisa Swain made their relationship official, viewers haven't seen a glimpse of them on our screens, but Corrie’s hottest new couple have plenty of challenges coming their way during the festive period.
Next week, things will be tense between the pair when Debbie Webster sees them on a date at the Chariot Square Hotel and assumes they’re just friends. When Carla fails to correct her, Lisa is left wondering if her new girlfriend is ashamed of her.
Later in the week, Lisa gets jealous of Carla’s lunch with a flirty client and the two women are caught out by Bobby, Fiz and Kirk in Carla’s flat after a power cut means an early finish for team Underworld.
Swarla go public
On Monday 23rd December, Carla tells her employees at the factory that her and Lisa are together, but Betsy embarrasses Lisa by making a sarcastic comment. Carla tries to smooth this over by inviting the teenager to dinner with her and Lisa at the Bistro, but Betsy decides to bring Mason Radcliffe along with her.
On Monday 30th December, a burst pipe causing flooding at the Swains’ flat means that Carla invites them to stay with her for the new year. As they move in, however, Carla notices some files that relate to the murder of Becky among Lisa’s things, leaving her feeling awkward and tensions rising when Lisa snaps at her.
Love is in the air
On New Year’s Eve, whilst trying to make up for the events of the previous day, Lisa surprises Carla with lunch in the café, but the romantic mood is broken when she’s called out to an urgent incident.
Later, despite being injured, Lisa reassures Carla that she’s fine and the pair head to the Rovers to celebrate the new year. During the countdown, Carla admits to her girlfriend that she’s in love with her, but does Lisa feel the same way?
Hospital horror for Carla
On New Year’s Day, Roy Cropper notices Carla is confused, and seems to be seeing and hearing things. He tells her to go home and get some rest, but his fears don’t subside.
He lets himself into Carla’s flat, only to find her barely conscious on the living room floor. He calls an ambulance and later, in the hospital, the doctor tells Roy that they suspect Carla has sepsis.
Whilst this is happening, Lisa obliviously continues investigating Matty Radcliffe, Mason’s brother, as she still suspects he had something to do with her late wife’s murder. She arrives home later with flowers and wine for Carla, and is shocked to find her not there.
Another transplant?
On Friday 3rd January, Carla learns that her kidney, which was given to her by her brother Aidan in 2018, has been damaged by the sepsis and she may need another transplant.
Ryan returns home from visiting his mother Michelle in Ireland and Lisa finds out that Carla has lied about where she’s been, rushing to the hospital to express her upset at being deceived.
Carla, however, downplays the seriousness of her medical problems, telling her girlfriend that she doesn’t want a fuss made. Hurt by this, Lisa leaves her to deal with it by herself. Will this spanner in the works tear them apart?
