Last night, we finally saw Joel's killer unmasked. As Max plans to take the fall for Lauren, we take a look at those on the Street who have killed before, but are still living in Weatherfield...
Tracy Barlow
Back in 2007, we saw Tracy murder Charlie Stubbs, after a tumultuous and messy relationship with the builder. Having faked abuse at his hand, she plead self defense, but this didn't hold up in court. Instead, Tracy was sentenced to life in prison for murder.
In typical soap fashion, writers were able to twist this to bring her back to the Street — in 2010, the expert in forensics was unmasked as a fraud, allowing Tracy's release from prison, despite viewers knowing she did in fact kill Charlie intentionally.
Coronation Street killers: Gary Windass
Despite being responsible for multiple deaths on the Street, Gary has never served time for murder. Notably, he murdered loan shark (and father of Kelly) Rick Neelan, with terminally ill ex-wife Laura taking the fall for Rick's death.
While fans might not lose sleep over the murder of a villain, we can't forget that Gary was also responsible for the death of Rana Habeeb! On her wedding day, Underworld's roof caved in, leading to Rana dying, breaking the heart of her wife-to-be, Kate Connor. The roof had been sabotaged by Gary, who was struggling for money.
Five years on, and Weatherfield residents are still unaware of his involvement in Rana's death.
Billy Mayhew
Although Billy wasn't introduced until 2014, a retcon of past events named him as the killer of Susan Barlow, Peter's twin sister. In 2001, Susan was killed in a motor accident, which Billy later confessed to being responsible for.
After robbing a petrol station, Billy was fleeing the scene, when his car ran Susan's off the road, leading to her death. Although he confessed to Peter in 2017, he didn't end up going to the police about the historic case.
Coronation Street killers: Toyah Habeeb
It wouldn't be a list of Coronation Street killers walking free without Toyah! The most recent killer on the list, Toyah killed husband, Imran Habeeb, in 2022. After the solicitor fathered a child to Abi Franklin, he and Toyah fought for custody of baby Alfie. Imran, however, lied in court, claiming that former addict Abi was back on drugs.
Discovering his lies, Toyah intentionally crashed her car into a wall, leading to Imran's death. Despite doing this on purpose, Toyah was found not guilty of Imran's murder when it went to trial.
With plenty of killers still roaming Weatherfield, having served little to no time behind bars, what do you think...will Lauren serve time, will Max serve it for her, or will nobody end up in prison for Joel's murder?
Who will take the fall for Joel's murder?
