In news exclusively broken by the Metro today, it's looking like another long running Coronation Street character is set to leave our screens.
With approximately 65 current adult characters on the cobbles, its no surprise that new producer Kate Brooks may have plans to streamline the cast size — and with Corrie's love of raising awareness, it's no surprise either that some some of these exits will explore sensitive topics.
Debbie's leaving Coronation Street
Debbie Webster, played by the brilliant Sue Devaney, returned to our screens in 2019, a whopping thirty four years after her departure. Now, it's looking like 2025 will be her final year in Weatherfield.
According to the Metro's inside source: 'It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight'.
Though unconfirmed by ITV itself, her exit storyline will apparently see the businesswoman diagnosed with dementia, a storyline which will span 2025 and perhaps beyond, before her death.
The end of Debbie Webster
While she's been criminally underused in recent years, fans will remember Debbie's dealing with Ray Crosby, which culminated in her almost freezing to death in the Bistro's walk in fridge.
Since then, Debbie's mainly floated around as a background character, with fans frequently begging for her to have more screentime.
While it appears we'll finally get our wish, this perhaps isn't quite how we were hoping it would play out! With Sue Devaney's talent, however, this will undoubtedly be an excellent storyline to watch.
